From the first eddy current tachometer to the motor mon­i­tor­ing Maritime 4.0

1952

New foundation in Schönaich near Stuttgart with the production of tachometers and revolution counters, continuing the maritime tradition of the company.
1971

Start electronic manufacturing with the production of compact measuring systems based on processor technologies.

Move to Gärtringen: a new building adapted to the individual material flow of our products increases flexibility, efficiency and quality for our customers.
The history of the Horn company dates back to 1885: Company founder Dr. Theo­Â­Â­dor Horn (1854-1925) was granted a patent for the first eddy current tachome­ter and began production of the first in­stru­ments in Leipzig – industrial speed mea­sure­ment technology was born. Dr. Theo­dor Horn's inventions are still the foun­da­tion of the company today.
Driven by the idea of achieving what was tech­ni­cally fea­si­ble, he developed speed and rev me­ters, which were mainly used in me­chan­i­cal en­gi­neer­ing and in aviation and shipping.
From the beginning, the prerequisites for the suc­cess of the com­pany were the precise op­er­a­tion and the solid con­struc­tion of the devices. The ex­cel­lent quality made Horn's products world-fa­mous. By 1900, they were already being ex­ported to all in­dus­tri­al­ized coun­tries worldwide. In 1945, the company was completely destroyed.
In Schönaich near Stuttgart the in­dus­tri­al­ist Carl Bahr­mann and Dr. phil. Erhard Horn, a son of Dr. Theo­dor Horn, founded the new Dr. E. Horn GmbH in 1952. 40 em­ployees continued the production of Horn speedometers and tachome­ters in the tradition of the com­pany founder.

The company has been developing com­pact mea­­­­sur­­­­ing systems, electrical mea­sur­ing systems since 1971 and elec­tronic processor-based sensor and eval­u­a­tion systems since the mid-1990s.

Nevertheless, the production still follows the maxim that was already valid in the days of the company founder Dr. Theo­dor Horn: precise production, high quality stan­dards and careful control.

In 2009, AD-PART AG took over the com­pany as sole shareholder and con­tin­ues the tradition of the previously family-run business. Since then, our com­pany has had a strong partner at its side, guar­an­tee­ing further de­vel­op­ment and financial security.

In 2018, our company moved into the newly con­structed building in Gär­trin­gen, Germany, and with expanded de­vel­op­ment capacities we will continue to ex­pand our product portfolio for both the mar­itime industry and in­dus­trial ap­pli­cations.
